Can I live with my friends?
You may request roommates by listing them on the Roommate Matching Form, which is sent in your housing offer packet. Whenever possible, a mutual roommate request will be honored. Requests must come from both students in writing and we suggest submitting your applications and deposits together. We only offer same-gender room assignments.

What if I don't have anyone specific I want to live with?
When you sign your License Agreement, you will complete a Roommate Matching Form indicating specific information that will help us match you with a roommate. We will place you with another student with similar interests, when possible. You will receive your roommate assignment and contact information in late July.

Financial Aid Frequently Asked Questions

Will the cost of my residence hall contract be covered by financial aid?
Financial aid is applied first to a student’s tuition and related fees; residence hall charges are considered last. Most grants through the Financial Aid office will be awarded as if the recipient were not in the residence hall. Aid that could be higher for eligible students in the residence hall would include the Direct Loan. For more information, contact your Financial Aid counselor at 718-997-5100.

How will Financial Aid know to review my award to consider my residence hall charges?
Be sure to follow up early with the Financial Aid office to confirm no items are pending on your account. After you submit your Summit application and room reservation / damage deposit, and your awarded aid is not sufficient to cover your expenses, visit your financial aid counselor and request to review your aid.  If you already have a student loan for academic year 2009-2010, ask if an increase is possible. If you do not already have a loan, and want one, discuss your eligibility with your financial aid counselor.

If my financial aid is not definite by the time my residence hall bill is due, what can I do? What happens if my financial aid is reduced or cancelled?
In accordance with College policies, the License Agreement you sign indicates you understand you are responsible for the charges incurred and for paying on time. This is regardless of your Financial Aid awards or status.

What else should I consider in applying for student loans to cover my residence hall bill?
Consider loans only if you really need them because they will need to be repaid.  Also, be aware you may not know whether or not you have sufficient financial aid until after you make your room reservation / damage deposit. Many students are not eligible to receive the program maximum in loans, so you should not rely on those totals in your decision making.
